Bringing the Credit Union to Selby

By March 2, 2019Projects

Selby Big Local is pleased to announce that it’s formed a partnership with Community First Credit Union, which will see our new Credit Union Outreach Worker, Natasha Aldred, working across the Selby Big Local area over the coming months.

Membership of the Credit Union is open to everyone and Community First Credit Union can offer everything from savings accounts, to loans, to budgeting advice, and helping people gain access to affordable credit rather than being forced into alternative forms of credit which can charge exorbitant interest rates.

Tom Jenkinson, Chair of Big Local, says:

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our residents to have access to affordable credit for things like new washing machines, fridges etc. and other essential items which often break down and need replacing. Many people do not have access to basic services like bank accounts and small loans for life’s necessities. Credit Unions are community based and there to help people gain better control of their finances and avoid the astronomical interest charges of some of the alternative forms of borrowing. They also encourage people to begin saving just a small sum each month so they are better able to plan for the future.

If you want to find out more you can visit the credit union website:

Alternatively you can make an appointment with Natasha or just drop-in to one of our outreach sessions.

We have a drop-in at Community House on Portholme Road every Monday from 9-12pm and in Selby Library every Wednesday from 1-3.30pm.
